Prayer at a time of great human tragedy


Bearer of all pain, Christ Jesus, we come this day to share with you our continuing sorrow, shock, and grief.

With the people of New York, Washington and all those in deep grief through the loss of their family members and friends - we wait and we weep.

Giver of life, we wait with you to bear your hope to earth's darkest places - we wait with you at those places where darkness is deeper than the deepest pain.

Where love is denied, let love break through
Where justice is destroyed, let righteousness rule
Where hope is crucified, let faith persist
Where peace is no more, let passion live on
Where truth is twisted, let the struggle continue
Where laughter has dried up, let music play on

Bearer of all pain, have mercy
Giver of life, have mercy
Relieve the terror of this moment with new hope
Ease the hideous cries with the quiet voice of your peace that here and now we may know your salvation - your glory - your future.
